SU261 Thank You Card

I’ve been playing around with this retired SU! set.  I really have to start selling some of the retied stamps and accessories to give me more room for new ones!!  Haha

I stamped the leaves and flowers on to white cardstock.  I used the brayer to color the flowers Calypso Coral and I used the large smear stamp to color my leaves.

Although the picture doesn’t show this, I pounced Versamark on the flowers, added clear EP with a pinch of Dazzling Diamonds then heat set.

Paper: Pretty Papers DSP (2015/16 catalogue), White, Old Olive, Black, Mint Macaron.

Stamps: Awash with Flowers, Work of Art, Because I Care (thank you), Heard from the Heart (phrase for the inside).

Ink: Black, Calypso Coral, Mint Macaron.

Accessories: Paper fastener, brayer, Clear EP, sponge, Dazzling Diamonds, heat tool, mounts.

Punches: Scallop Edge Border, Square Lattice EF, Large Oval.

Milestone Birthday – 9 years old – B09c

Cute ladybug by scrappinmad-karien.  I didn’t change it much except I didn’t do as my doodling as Karien.  I used the circle Coluzzle to make his body about 3”. Here is the poem I used for this 9 year old card from The Quote Garden.

Little ladybug on my arm, you wear a heart as part of your charm

You joined me on this sunny day, just for a moment then you flew away. 

Happy 9th birthday!

AG042 18” Doll Nightie Tutorial

Found this cute Nightie/Pajama tutorial and pattern by shwinandshwin for the 18” dolls.  It fit perfect!  Jenna from Maplelea is doing the modeling.

I cut my faux front placket 2” x 2”, pressed up one short end and folded the two long ends inward.

Place the rectangle in the center of the neckline of the front piece and sew all around the edge.

A long sleeve and short sleeve are included in their pattern -  hem either one at 1/2”. With right sides together sew the front of the sleeves to the front bodice then sew the back pieces to the back sleeve.  Press the sleeves flat.  Now you have a circle.

I added a neckband.  Cut neckband 1.25” wide by 10” or more long depending on how stretchy the band is.  Press in half.  Sew the neckband to the nightie stretching slightly.

Press the neckband towards the garment and topstitch.  Press again.

I dropped my feed dogs and used my darning foot to add buttons.

Because the hem line is on a curve, it is easier to run a basting thread at ¼” from edge.

With Right sides together, sew the side seams.  Press.

Sew center back seam closed about 4” from the bottom.  Bar tack.

Add about 5” of fusible web to the back at the Velcro placements.  Sew on 4” of Velcro.

Hem the bottom by turning to the basting line and sewing in place.

Remove basting thread.  Press and you are done!

This is a simple and fun technique from the Occasions 2016 catalog page 4 called Coloring on Textured Embossed cardstock.   We embossed with the new embossing folder and added color by sponging over the embossing. How beautiful is that?

AG032 18” Doll Tutorial Infinity Scarf and Knit dress

I have Charlsea from Maplelea modelling this outfit.  For the dress, I used Susan Kramer’s free jumper pattern - I can't see, to find it on her site now but maybe you can.  I raised the neckline about 1/2" and raised the armhole about 1” to make the armhole smaller.  I also opened the center back.  I used mycupoverflows sleeve pattern – I added about an inch onto the length of that.

Dress

Prep the sleeve by hemming the bottom about ¼”.

Run a basting stitch at the top of each sleeve and pull threads to gather.

Insert 5” of 1/8” elastic into hem casing.  Secure both ends.  Set aside.

Apply about 4” of interfacing to each center back at Velcro placement.

Press one side under ½” to serve as a guide later on.

Sew shoulder seams, pink and press open.

I cut the neckband 1.5” wide by 10” long.  Sew, stretching slightly.  Trim off excess neckband.  Pink and clip.  Topstitch towards the dress.

Sew about 2.5” of Velcro to the back seams.

Sew center back closed about 4” from bottom.

Press back seam to one side following the same direction as your prefold.  Bartack at the top of the seam for a little extra security.

Attach sleeves.  Pink and clip.

Sew the side seams.  Clip and press.  Hem bottom of dress at ½”.

Belt 

I cut the belt 1.5” wide by 16” long, sewed it into a tube, turned and pressed.

Fit to the doll.  Trim off excess.  Add a rhinestone buckle slider.  Sew about 1” of Velcro to each end.

Infinity Scarf 

There are lots of patterns for this on Pinterest.  I cut mine 4.5” wide by 26” long.  I’m using a different scarf than the one that goes with this dress and that’s because I forgot to take pictures!  Anyways, I like to press about 4” of my fabric under as a guide for later – I’ve put pins to show you what I mean.

Fold the fabric into a tube with right sides together but leave about 2” open on both ends.

Turn the tube right side out.  Pin the two short ends together – be sure you have the right sides together and sew.

Now, fold under the opening using your pressed marks and pin.

Topstitch closed.
