American Girl Doll Apron and Oven Mitt Tutorial AG044

American Girl Doll Apron Tutorial

I started with the apron pattern on DaydreamDoll Boutique’s blog – scroll to the bottom of her post and click on Doll Chef Set Pattern and, of course, I had to switch it up a bit.  Here is what my pattern ended up looking like:

Cut a piece of interfacing 1” wide.  Serge to the top of the front.  Serge bottom edge of the back.

Press facing on the front under 1”.  Press bottom edge of back at 3/8”.  Add ric rac or any other trim.  Cot a strap 1.25” by 28” long.  Fold in half and serge the long edge.

Stack the aprons wrong sides together.  Open the top facing and bring the pocket to the front.  Pin in place.

With the front facing open, serge the armholes and side seams.

Cut neck strap 8” long.  Serge both short ends to clean finish.  Sew one end to bottom of facing.

Add a piece of soft Velcro to the other end of the neck strap.

Add hard Velcro to the facing only.  Turn facing to the wrong side and topstitch at the top and bottom.

Cut remaining strap in half.  With right sides together, attach at side seams.  Turn back and topstitch.

I used my loop turner to pull my serger tails back under the serged seam.

Tie knots at the ends of the straps.  Chalk mark and sew down center of the pocket.  Bartack.

The Velcro at the neck makes it very easy to put on or take off.

American Girl Doll Oven Mitt Tutorial

I started out using the oven mitt pattern from Daydream Doll Boutique’s blog however, I cut as one piece.  Trace it on to the wrong side of the fabric.  Do not cut it out.

Draw diagonal lines on the fabric about 5/8” apart.

Sew on the lines.

Cut out.  Serge across the top.

Press top under ¼”.

Insert 4” of 1/8” elastic.   Secure both ends.

Pin mitt right sides together and sew.  Clip, turn and press.
