SU144 One Layer Card

Marie K hosted a One Layer card swap. It was difficult to come up with an idea using only one piece of cardstock, however, I am pleased with the way this one turned out.

After I had stippled the top and bottom of my card with a shaving brush, I stamped the image on the white cs in brown ink, masked the sky area with a scrap of paper, stippled a horizon then removed the mask. I re-inked the stamp then stamped it on wax paper. I turned it upside down, with the ink towards the paper, and lined it up, so the image would be matching. I then brayered over it, to leave the reflection. It goes down a lot lighter, which is perfect for a reflection.  Known as the Reflection Technique or Mirror Image Technique.

Stamps - Upsy Daisy.

Ink - Tempting Turquoise, Close to Cocoa.

Paper - White, Tempting Turquoise.

Accessories - 11/4" circle punch for moon mask, wax paper, shaving brush for stippling, scrap paper for masking the horizon, stamp aligner.

SU053 Versamark Resist

Versamark Resist Technique

Versmark is a clear ink that is usually used to emboss images or create a watermark background.

Cut Glossy card stock to the size you want.
Ink your stamp with the Versamark pad and stamp on glossy card stock.
Run your brayer in ink of your choice, and brayer over the Versamark image.  You can sponge ink over top instead of using a brayer if you want. The stamped images will resist the ink. Keeping the card simple lets the technique stand out!

The more you brayer or sponge, the darker it goes and the more the images pop.  Also remember that the darker the color you use the less likely the Versamark is going to resist.
I hope you will try this technique!  This is sometimes called Ghosting.

SU123 Holiday Greetings

Brayered Apricot Appeal on the bottom 2/3rds of a 5 x 3.75 piece of White cs.

Punched a 1 3/8″ circle from a post it note and used it as a mask for the sun.

Brayered More Mustard over the bottom 2/3rds of the card stock.

Brayered Really Rust ink at the bottom 1/2 of the card stock.

Brayered Night of Navy ink at the top of the card stock.

Sponged More Mustard ink in a “U” shape around the sun.

Sponged black at the bottom, left top corner then lightly through the center of the cs.

Removed mask and sponged Apricot Appeal ink at the bottom of the sun.

Stamped Magenta branch, 09116.O pg 35 and phrase from the SU! Sincere Salutations set in Garden Green ink.

Punch phrase with wide oval punch and edge in black.

SU129 Brayered Winter Scene

Stamp Set - Lovely as a Tree.

Tear Post It Note and adhere to white glossy cs to mask the snow area.

Brayer with Pretty in Pink.

Make a mask for the moon from Post it Note and a 1" punch.

Brayer with Slate by PSX covering only part of the Pink. Brayer Not Quite Navy covering only part of the Slate. Sponge along Post it Note horizon line with Navy. Remove masks. Sponge Slate on moon to soften. Stamp all trees using Slate. Added touches of glitter to the trees with Sparkles glitter glue by PSX.

Brayer with Slate by PSX covering only part of the Pink. Brayer Not Quite Navy covering only part of the Slate. Sponge along Post it Note horizon line with Navy. Remove masks. Sponge Slate on moon to soften. Stamp all trees using Slate. Added touches of glitter to the trees with Sparkles glitter glue by PSX.

SU167 Brayering the Manhattan Flower

Seen this idea on Patty's blog. She used Shimmery White Cardstock, I didn't have any. She did a 'hit and miss' with her brayer. That didn't look so good on the plain white cs so I completely covered my piece with each color without rolling it off onto a scrap paper as Patty did. I just didn't use my brayer forcefully as I wanted the under color to show through. 
 

Embossed the Manhattan Flower die onto White cardstock. Turned the finished image over so the raised portion was facing DOWN onto my table. Inked my brayer in Apricot Appeal and rolled onto "debossed" (flat) side of the rose image. Lightly covered the image entirely with color. Repeated with Pink Passion. Sprayed with glitter.

I found it easier to turn the rose over and cut the image following the raised edges. Originally, I had shaded the bird in pink passion but because of mixing the 2 colors together on the rose, the pink passion had changed color so I used Apricot Appeal to shade the bird instead.

Seen this idea on Patty's blog. She used Shimmery White Cardstock, I didn't have any. She did a 'hit and miss' with her brayer.
