Craft - Flower Loop Hair Bow

Cut 3 pieces of 7/8 inch ribbon at 8 inches each – if using 3/8 inch wide ribbon, cut 4 pieces.

Burn the edges to seal.  Stack them on top of each other.  Fold with the right sides together to make a loop.

Come in the center of the loop with a threaded needle but stop once your needle is through all 3 ribbons.

Arrange the ribbons equally.

Starting with the ribbon that is on the table (bottom ribbon), take one end of it and put it through the needle.

Continue clockwise around until all the ends are on the needle.

Now pull the needle and take 3 or 4 stitches to secure.

You can make this bow with as many layers as you like; simply decrease the ribbon length by 1” for each layer you add.

To repeat for a second flower, cut 3 pieces of 5/8 inch wide ribbon at 7 inches each.  Seal the ends and continue as for first flower.

Stack the layers from largest to smallest and sew middles together.

Add a button.

Hot glue the flower loop bow to a prepared clip using this tutorial.

Craft - How to Quickly Cover a Hair Clip

If the clip will be totally covered with a bow or anything bigger, I don’t do as much prep to them as I did for the How to Cover Spring Hair Clips.  Instead, I roughly measure out what it will take to go under the top clip, over the top and just partially around the back.  That measured about 4.75 inches.  Seal the ends with a lighter flame and begin hot gluing.

You are basically only covering the top clip.

Then around to the back.

Notice that I don’t even follow the pinch end of the clip.

Cover with a bow.  Quick and easy.

Since the bow entirely covers the clip, why do all the extra work!

Craft - Double Wreath and Yellow Hair Bows

Start with a prepared Hair Clip from this post.  Set aside.
Cut 3 pieces of ribbon about 5”, 3.5” and.75” long.  I am using Satin Stitched ribbon in the new color, Midnight Muse by Stampin Up.   Seal the ends with a lighter flame.  Fabri-Tac the two longer pieces into a circle.

Fabri-Tac the circle in the center to make a bow.

Stack the bows and Fabri-Tac together.  Fabri-Tac to a prepared Hair clip and wrap the small piece of ribbon around it, trimming and re-heat setting if necessary.

That is it!

Ok, now onto a very simple hair bow.

Cut a piece of cardboard 2” wide, cut about a ¼” slit in the center; cut .5” or 5/8” wide ribbon 10” long, cut the ends on an angle and heat seal the ends; cut 3/8” wide ribbon 3” long, seal the ends and tie into a knot.

Wrap the long ribbon around the cardboard, moving it up about 1/8” on each wrap.  I used paper clips to hold in place.

Run a basting stitch through the center of the ribbon.

Remove paper clips and remove ribbon from cardboard.  Pull thread tight, wrapping it around a few times.

Fabri-Tac the center of the knot to the center of the bow.

Wrap ends to the back of the bow, trimming and re-heat setting.  Fabri-Tac to a prepared Hair clip and that is it!

Craft - How to Cover Spring Hair Clips

This technique is not original but they are awfully cute so I thought I’d share.  My daughter says she pays big bucks for these so I thought I’d help her out!!
I had a lot of troubles trying to find these clips. In my days of doing hair, I used to have lots.  Since I haven’t done hair for years, I gave all my perm rods, clips etc to the Interval Home.  Darn!!  Anyways, I did finally find some that will work.

To begin, kinda wrap the ribbon around your clip to get an approximate length.   Mine took about 7.75 inches but I was generous.   I am using Satin Stitched ribbon in the new color, Raspberry Ripple by Stampin Up.  It is 3/8 inches wide so it worked great.

To keep the ends from fraying, you can run a quick lighter flame along the cut ends.

I am using Fabri-Tac glue as well as my hot glue gun.  You could use the hot glue all the way but it is a bit bumpy once it dries.  Begin by hot gluing only the end of the ribbon to the inner side of the lower inside portion of the clip. I used a paper clip to quickly press the ribbon to the clip.  Watch that you are keeping the ribbon straight!   Then, add Fabri-Tac glue to the ribbon.

Turn it over and add some glue on the inside of the clasp.

Wrap it around to the bottom side of the clip. Make sure to pull tight at the edge of the clip.

Then, add hot glue to the curve of the clasp.

Pinch clasp open, and wrap all the way around and under the top clip. Again, pull tight at the edge.

Trim off any extra and heat set the edge.

You can leave these clips as is, or you can jazz them up even more with some fun jewels, ribbons or buttons!  You can also add a non-slip grip to them real easy too. Cut them the size of the clip and they won’t fall out of fine hair.  I would skip the jewels for little ones that like to put things in their mouths as there is no real way to know they won’t come off.

Craft - Potato Masher Bow

Thank goodness we all have these utensils in our kitchen!  The potato masher is perfect for making a bow!  For this method you can leave the ribbon on the spool and cut it once the bow is finished to save ribbon wastage.

Wrap some ribbon around a couple loops of the masher. I am using 3/8” wide ribbon by SU! in the new color Primrose Petals. I used a pin to hold it in place while I took the picture but that isn’t necessary.

Tightly wrap thread around the center.

Remove from the masher.  Heat seal the ends.  This bow ends up being about 1.75” across.  Very quick and easy!  In case you missed it, check out my How to make Bow using a Fork!
