Workshop Cards W007, W008, W009

I didn't go to December's SU! Workshop at Joanne's due to the weather so I will share some that we made earlier in November 2010.  I didn’t mark down the ‘ingredients’ I used to make them.  If you are familiar with SU! products, you will probably recognize them.  If there is something you would like to know, just email me and I will find out what we used.

Thank you for stopping by.  Both Joanne and I are SU! demonstrators so if at any time you would like to purchase SU! products, give her a call or from my Blog, click on the Shop Now button.  Your order will be delivered right to you (you do have to give SU! a street address, not a box #).

Sewing - Hanging Pot Holder Oven Door Towel

Spotted this on Pinterest.  Thought it looked simple enough to do so here we go.  I bought this towel without realizing the pattern turned at the center of the towel but it worked perfect for this hanging towel.

The pot holder I had is 7x9”.  Find the center and mark across it on the wrong side. Set aside.

Find the center of your towel and draw a line across it on the right side.

Cut ¼” clear elastic about 8” long – you need the width of the pot holder plus a bit more to use for grabbing.  I love this elastic – you can stretch it a mile and it always goes back to the length you cut it.

Mark the center of the elastic and pin to the center line on the towel.  Pin both ends leaving about ½” on either end to grab.

Stretch and zigzag over the clear elastic.

Match the line you drew on your potholder to the top of the elastic on the towel and pin.

Sew through all thicknesses.  Trim off your elastic tails.

Take the bottom of your potholder and bring it up to meet the top.  Sew a button to the front of your potholder.  You are done!

SU229 Thankyou Owl Card

I decided to challenge myself to using this Owl Punch by SU! at least once a month for a year!  He is so darn cute that it shouldn’t be a problem!  Sometimes I struggle with what colors to put together so I turn to The Color Lab for help.  This was a color combo they suggested.  I embossed Night of Navy cardstock with the Northern Flurry EF then swiped it with my white ink pad to make the snowflakes pop.  I embossed the Cherry Cobbler strip with the Petals a Plenty as they remind me of poinsettia’s.  I white embossed a little snowflake on his chest.  Most everything was sponged in white or navy.

Stamps – Flight of a Butterfly, Make a Mitten.

Card Stock - Black, White, Night of Navy, Cherry Cobbler, Early Espresso, Soft Suede.

Ink - White, Night of Navy, Cherry Cobbler, Versamark.

Accessories - sponge, Owl Builder punch, Northern Flurry embossing folder, Petals a Plenty embossing folder, white embossing powder.

MDS 147, Sweet Dreams Sleeping Beauty Scrapbook Page

Not much to this page!  As usual, I used a sketch to get me going - attached below.  I used the crop tool to crop the Top Note punch as I only wanted half of it.  Once I had the buttons on my flower punches, I used the Align button to make them perfectly straight.  One of the nicest things about creating digitally, is you can download what you want any time of the day or night, then you are able to use it IMMEDIATELY... no waiting for it to come in the mail.  If you are thinking about digital scrapbooking, you can download MDS (My Digital Studio) for a free 30 day trial period.  Click on the ‘Shop Now’ button at the top of my Blog for more info.  You will be hooked!l I used a sketch to get me going.  It is attached below.

Sewing - Making and Joining Binding and Bias Tape

Bias tape and binding are the same thing – the difference is that bias tape is cut on the bias of the fabric and binding is cut with the grain.  You can use binding for any straight edge, but if you have a curved edge you will want to use bias tape.

Cut strips as long as you need and 4 times the width of what you want your finished binding width to be.   I cut two lengths parallel to the edge of my fabric 3” wide by 45” long.

Swipe the right sides of all the ends of your fabric with a chalk pencil if you are using plain fabric such as I am.

Take two of your strips and place them right sides together at right angles to each other.  Kinda like making an upside down letter L with your fabric.  Draw a line from the bottom left corner to the top right corner.  Very important that you draw from left to right so as not to accidentally sew along the wrong diagonal.

Pin and sew along your line.

Cut off the extra fabric leaving about a quarter of an inch.  Trim off the little dog ear.

Now, iron the seam open.

Fold strip in half and press.

Bring the raw edges to the center line, one side at a time and press.  Repeat for the other side.

The joined seam is evenly distributed for less bulk.

Now it is ready to apply!

MDS 147- Cookie Exchange Party Invitations using MDS

Have you heard all the buzz about Digital Scrapbooking using Stampin' Up!'s My Digital Studio program?  Well it turns out that you can do SO MUCH MORE with My Digital Studio than just digital scrapbooking, photobooks, calendars and cards! You can make FABULOUS Invitations!  My daughter found THESE Cookie Exchange Party Invitations so we did them in MDS.

We created the front page by designing one then copying and pasting to make 3 more to fit an 8.5x11" page:

The middle page:

And the last page:

Printed them out then cut them into quarters.

We cut them into tags.

We hole punched and tied each of the three tags together with ribbon.

Then we tied the invitation to the flippers she had bought at a Dollar Store.

Because most of the ladies in this Exchange are local, she handed them out personally instead of mailing them.
