MDS 132 The Time Has Come Scrapbook Page

It is wonderful that we are able to make different shapes in MDS.  I made a Dresden shape using the pennant punch and the half circle punch that I learnt at Heather’s class a year ago.  You can see it HERE.  So easy!  Not only is MDS free for 30 days but there are several free downloads that you can grab and have a play with too.  That said though, there is so much content already loaded in the software itself that you may not want to add more to it until you have had a play.  Click on the ‘Shop Now’ button at the top of my Blog for more info.

Sewing – Oven Door Hanging Towel

Seen this on Pinterest some time ago.  I cannot find it now, of course! Sometimes the designer isn't always obvious on Pinterest, nor is there necessarily a tutorial so I will let you know how I did it.  I do remember that she had sewn a bunch of scallops on her fabric but that looked like too much work for me!  This towel is much better than the snap closing ones that can end up getting pulled off the oven door.

To make the pattern, trace a 9.5 x 5” rectangle onto a piece of paper.  Mark a center line.  I used my platter to trace a curve.

Cut 2 fabric and two light weight interfacing from this pattern.  Fuse interfacing to wrong sides of fabric.  Press up bottom long edges.

Pin and sew 1/4" around the two short ends and across the curve with right sides together.

 Trim with pinking shears.

Turn inside out and press with iron.

Unfold bottom long edges.  Measure up 2” from there and draw a line, stopping at 1” from each side.  Draw another line ¼” away from the first one and make a ‘box’.

Use your buttonhole stitch to sew around the box you just drew.  Sew it twice for security, using a slightly wider buttonhole stitch for the second round.

Cut top edge of towel.  It should be no longer than 20”.

Make tucks in the top of the towel to fit the fabric opening.

Stitch across using a ¾” seam allowance.

Tuck the towel up inside the fabric.  Put the right side of the towel to the wrong side of the fabric.

Sew with a zigzag stitch through all thicknesses on the right side as that is what you will see once it is hanging then top stitch all the way around the fabric from the right side.

Cut the buttonhole with small scissors.

To hang the towel, slip the fabric over the oven handle with right side facing outwards.  Put the towel through the buttonhole in fabric.  Pull fabric to the top.
This towel can't be pulled off so easily every time someone needs to dry their hands.

Recipe - Cake Batter Fudge

This recipe was floating around Facebook and Pinterest so thought we would try it.  All you need for this simply delicious  fudge is a box of yellow cake mix, 2 cups icing sugar, ½ cup butter and ½ cup milk!

Stir dry cake mix and icing sugar together in a microwave safe bowl.

Without stirring, add butter cut in pieces and milk on top of dry ingredients but DO NOT stir!

Microwave for exactly 2 minutes.  It will look like this when out of the microwave:

Now stir and add sprinkles – it should look like cake batter.

Pour into a greased 8” cake pan and refrigerate until set.

Here is the recipe again:

Cake Batter Fudge
1 box yellow cake mix
2 cups icing sugar

Mix together in a microwave safe bowl.  Add, without stirring

½ cup butter cut in pieces
½ cup milk

Microwave 2 minutes
Stir and add sprinkles.

Pour into a greased 8” cake pan and refrigerate until set.  It is simply delicious! We even tried it with a chocolate cake mix.  I liked the white cake way better but I am not a real chocolate fan.

MDS 130 September Long Scrapbook Page

This was an extremely quick page to put together.  The Number One paper did all the work for me, I simply added some embellishments – the paper was already grunged for me!  MyDigitalStudio.net is an online community with forums to answer questions, videos to train techniques, and regular blog posts to provide inspiration and the latest product line information.  It is also where you can see the new artwork released every week to build up your digital library.  Click on the ‘Shop Now’ button at the top of my Blog for more info.

Craft - Popsicle Sticks and Paint

Do you ever find yourself shopping for fabrics, furniture and accessories for your home and wish that you had your paint colors with you to refer to?  Here’s a good tip for that.  Paint one side of a Popsicle stick the color of your room.  Let dry then apply a second coat.  Write the color name and brand of your paint on the backside of the stick.  Do this for every color you use in your house.  Throw them in your purse and you’re good to go!

I knew this trick from years ago but never remembered to do it.  I’m trying really hard to do it with our newly purchased house since we are painting every room it seems!  Since the ensuite and our bedroom are complete, I went looking for towels, soap dish and a toothbrush holder.  When I first walked into the towel section, I headed straight to the color of towels I thought the room was painted and then brought out my handy dandy Popsicle sticks.  Boy was I wrong!  There were so far off, I couldn’t believe it!  With my sticks, I was able to find the right colors.

I wanted something in the beige line for the soap dish and toothbrush holder.  No problem!  This one:

Or this one?

Isn’t it great to learn about good tips!

Speaking of our house, the addition and the single car garage are up and shingled.  I have a bonus room above the garage for my sewing and crafts.  I had the guys make the stairs a little wider to allow for a chair lift should I need one someday.  The electrician and plumber are basically done so we are ready to start insulating etc.

My 9 year grandson even made me a step to get into the house!
