Milestone Birthday – 5 years old – B05b

Marina cardstock is 8.5” x 11”.  Cut the short side at 5" and the long side at 8.25".  Score left side at 3.5" and the right side at 3.75inches.  I found a birdhouse template on the net and changed it to suit my card.  I am sure there is a name for this fold but I don’t know what it is.

Here is the verse I used for inside.

It’s great to be now five years old,

An exciting time for you,

Hope your birthday is so much fun,

With treats and games for you.

For you deserve a special day,

With laughter all day long,

And when it’s time to blow your candles out,

We’ll sing the birthday song.

Cardstock: designer paper from my stash, Chili by Magenta, Marina Mist, Garden Green, White.

Punch: 1-3/8" circle, Bird Builder, 3/4" circle, Wide oval, Scallop border.

Ink: Cherry Cobbler.

Accessories: sponge, Stampin around Cupcakes.

American Girl Doll Bandeau Top and Jean Skirt AG026

Bandeau Top
This is a quick and easy top to make.  No pattern needed!
Cut a band 3” wide x 13” long.  Fold in half with wrong sides together.
Pin to doll.
Cut a piece of fabric 5” long by 15” wide.  Pin, with wrong sides facing out, to the doll at the bottom of the band.  Pin the sides to the shape of the doll.
Sew where the pins are.
Trim with pinking shears and press.  Attach to bottom of band.  Serge or pink edges.  Press towards the band and topstitch.
Try on the doll to determine the hem line.  Allow ½” for hem.

Okay, I now have a problem!  as I was watching my Soaps in bed one evening, a lady brought her sewing machine over for Mr Service Man to service.  He went into my sewing space and tells me he found this piece of fabric on the floor so he used it to do his machine testing!  Awwwww!  Guess I will have to keep my sewing space a little neater!  Since I don’t feel like unpicking all his test stitches, I’ll continue with a different top that I've prepped this far.
Cut straps 1-1/2” wide by 14” long.  Fold strap in half lengthwise with wrong sides together.  Gently press the fold to create a center crease.  Open the folded strip and lay it flat, wrong side up.  Fold one of the straps long raw edges in toward the center fold and press a crease into this folded edge.  Repeat for the other long raw edge.   Set aside.

Fold back fabric at center back to fit doll.  Attach velcro.  Hem the bottom.
Topstitch and fold strap in half.  Pin to the center front.
Put top on the doll and pin straps in place at the back.
Topstitch across the top of the band.  Use a small zig zag when crossing over the back and front straps.
Sew a button at the center front.

4079A Jean Leg Skirt
This is so simple. All you need to do is to cut off the end of a jeans leg, add a 10” long piece of 1/2” wide elastic to turn a jeans leg into a skirt.

I do not want to add a casing at the waist.  The denim is too bulky.  Cut the jean leg at 5.25” from bottom of hem.  Sew the elastic into a circle.

Divide elastic in half.  Pin to half way points on the skirt.  The seam at the back is NOT a center line so remember that.
Zig zag baste the elastic to skirt.  Use a serger to clean finish.  Zig zag at the bottom of elastic.
Very cute eh?
Now add buttons starting just above the hem then 1” apart.

American Girl Doll Western Outfit Tutorial AG017

The girls are going western!  This is an A-Line skirt by WrenFeathers .  Love her patterns!  Ordering info for this outfit is on my American Girl Doll Creations by Carole Facebook page if you are interested.

Did these alterations to the skirt as below.

Skirt:

Chalk mark top and bottom of skirts at ½”. Serge to clean finish.

Press on chalk marks.

Topstitch back waist only.  Insert 4.5” of ¼” wide elastic.  Stitch to secure.

Pin side seams.  Open front waist.

Wrap the front waistband to the back.

Sew side seams.

Flip front waistband.

Topstitch front waistband.

Topstitch hem.

Belt:
Cut fabric 1” wide by 20” long.  Put through the bias maker to make the folds.

Unfold and insert a strip of stitch witchery down the center to ‘glue’ the edges.

Topstitch from the right side – did you know that if you start sewing the fabric on a piece of paper, your machine won’t push the fabric down through the needle plate.  Awesome trick!

Put the skirt on the doll.  Add the slider.  Arrange to your liking.  I tacked the belt down at the center back seam and at her left hip.  Then I stitched under the slider to help keep the ties open.

Peasant Blouse:
This is also a pattern by WrenFeathers but did a bit of altering.  I drew straight across the tops of the sleeves, the front and the back as I did not want to add bias tape.  Worked out good.

I also added ½” on to the bottom of the sleeve and had to do some changes to the top to make it fit.

Chalk mark and press ½” on the hems at the neck, arms and waist.

Sew sleeves to front and back.

Pink and press.

Serge the neck opening, bottom of sleeves and back openings to clean finish.

Topstitch neck edge and hem the sleeves.

Use 11” of ¼” wide elastic at the neck.  Secure.

Sew side seams.  Pink and press.

Sew back seam to dot using ½” seam allowance.  Hem and attach velcro.

Bar tack at back seam.

Kerchief:

Cut a square fabric 12” x 12”.  Pull threads to fringe. Scarf can also be worn as a cape, a hair kerchief tied at the back or front, roll it up and wear it as a sailor tie, an infinity cowl, a headband, a bandana tied at the front or back.
